In "Dagon", the author used symbolism to enhance the plot by using the black mire and the night to show that the main character was going to die during the plot.
In "Dagon", H.P. Lovecraft used Mood/Tone to strengthen the Character, because the Sailor saw Dagon, and depicted fear. This revealed the terribleness of Dagon and the terror imbued upon the sailor.
In "Dagon", the author used plot to enhance the symbolism by using the end of the plot to symbolize that death is imminent for the man as Dagon comes to haunt him for the final time.
