  • Get up there, Bill.
  • That over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery.
  • ...Next thing you know, they'll be wanting to go back to living in caves...
  • Seventy-seventh year I been in the lottery. Seventy-seventh time.
  • Mr. Summers began calling out last names on the list for the lottery drawing.
  • You didn't give him time to take any paper he wanted. I saw you It wasn't fair!
  • Mr. Adams was telling Old Man Warner about how a village near has stopped doing the lottery.
  • Tessie
  • It isn't fair, it isn't right!
  • Old Man Warner complains about how things just aren't the same anymore once his name was called. 
  • Mrs. Tessie Hutchinson complains about how enough time was not given for the Zanini to pick a piece of paper out of the box.
  • Mr. Hutchinson was told to put all the names of his family back into the box and he was supposed to pull out a name, and he pulled out Tessie's. 
  • Mrs. Hutchinson is being stoned to death.
