  • Thought : Narrator 
  • Effect on Others : Narrator 
  • " don't leave me, don't leave me, don't leave me." (Hurst 318) This reveals that... William was scared of being left by his brother so he shouted out, "don't leave me" 
  • Action: narrator 
  • "When doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn't walk, so I set out to teach him." (Hurst 318) This reveals that... our narrator is caring but also embarressed. He wants his brother to succeed by walking but is embarssed that he has abrother at the age of 5 that can't wallk.
  • Looks : William 
  • "im going to teach you how to walk, doodle" I said. He was sitting comfortably on the soft grass, leaning back against the pine. "why?" he asked. "So i wont have to haul you around all the time.(Hurst 318) This reveals that... the narrator is annoyed with his brother's problems. He is getting tired of always carrying around doodle everywhere he goes. 
  • "Finally one day, after many weeks of practicing, he stood alone for a few seconds. When he fell, I grabbed him in my arms and hugged him, our laughter pealing through the swamp like a ringing bell. Now we knew it could be done." This reveals that... The narrator and William were determined to get William walking or even standing. They have faith
  • "He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and shriveled like an old man's" (Hurst 316). This reveals that... William is dependent on everyone around him. He was born with a lot of medical problems, so his family will need to take care of him.
