Erik Fisher and Mrs. Fisher both make choices with consequences that impact Paul.
Erik hold his eyes open while I spray this paint in them.
Ahh please no!
Erik is Paul’s older brother that plays football and gets angry very easily. As a result of Erik’s choice, Paul loses his peripheral vision and has to wear thick glasses. Paul also is not allowed to play soccer at Lake Windsor Middle School because he gets an IEP form.
“I remember Erik’s fingers prying my eyelids open while Vincent sprayed white paint into them” (Bloor 263-264).
I accidentally lost your IEP form.
Mrs. Fisher is Paul’s mother and the Erik Fisher Football Dream doesn’t determine her life. Mrs. Fisher’s choice to “lose” Paul’s IEP form results in a positive consequence for Paul- he gets to play soccer with the War Eagles. This impacts Paul by having his views of his mother changed. He is happy with her and knows that she doesn’t only care about the Erik Fisher Football Dream.
“‘Nothing happens, Paul. There is no IEP form in your file.’ ‘As we U turned in front of the school, she added, very carefully.’ ‘Your IEP disappeared somewhere between Lake Windsor Downs and here. It’s that kind of thing that we should probably never mentioned again?’” (Bloor 105).
