  • George Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789 in New York City. Washington dealt with many problems while also leaving many for the next President when he left office.
  • Whiskey Rebellion
  • Get the tax collectors!
  • Because of the Revolutionary War, the United States was in debt. The owed all of this money to other countries such a France
  • Problems in NW Territory
  • The U.S. was in debt, and as treasurer of the United States, Alexander Hamilton had an idea to fix his country's debt. His plan included three steps and they are as follows, create a national bank, pay back all state debts, and place high tariffs.
  • French Revolution
  • Down with the King! Down with the Queen!
  • As another way to make money, the U.S. government decided to put a tax on creating whiskey. This angered farmers because they made whiskey for extra money but now they had to pay that money just to make whiskey, and they rebelled of course.
  • Stay away!
  • After the war, the British promised to remove themselves from the North-West Territory and they never did. They were also supplying the native with weapons while the natives refused to give up their land.
  • We will never give up our land
  • You can have as many weapons as you like.
  • The French Revolution happened around the time that Washington took office. It was fought for fairness in the government because only the poorest citizens of France had to pay taxes.
