Tom and Gatsby have just gotten into an argument over Daisy. Tom feels that he has won, so he suggests that Daisy and Gatsby ride back together.
"Go on. He won't annoy you. I think he realizes that his presumptuous little flirtation is over."
Daisy is upset. She sees Myrtle and begins to steer out of the way before heading directly for her. Splat! Myrtle is dead, and Daisy speeds off.
Myrtle lies dead in the street as Wilson, Tom, Nick, and Jordan look at her body. Tom at first is shocked but quickly realizes that it was Daisy and Gatsby, so he urges them into his car and speeds off.
"Let's get out!"
Tom drove slowly around the bend, then his foot came down hard, and the coupe raced along through the night.
As they arrive home, an eerie feeling permeates through the air. The uncomfortableness is almost tangible. Tom walks in the house with Jordan, but Nick stays outside having had enough of this crowd for one evening. While he is outside, he spots Gatsby hiding behind the bushes.
" I don't trust him old sport."
"Wait here, I'll see if there is any sign of a commotion."
Tom and Daisy emitted a natural intimacy, and anybody would have said that they were conspiring together. It can only be inferred that Gatsby will be caught in the crossfire. To be continued......
