One night a sergeant came to the Whites' house bearing a strange object: a monkey's paw. He told them that the owner of it could have three wishes but that the wishes came with a terrible price...
The sergeant insisted they throw it in the fire, but Mr White rescued it and said they'd keep it. So after the sergeant left, the Whites wished for £200.
The next day, after the son went to work, a strange man came and told them that their son had died in machinery so he gave them £200.
Later that night, the woman weeped & weeped and yelled to the man "wish for my son to come back... NOW!" before he could answer she grabbed the monkey's paw and made the second wish.
Instantly there was a knocking sound at the door, the old man went to see who it was however, what he saw could not be burnt from his memory it was the son but how he looked when he died.
The woman cried "Let me see my child!" but Mr White knew, that when she saw him ,she'd be upset so he frantically he looked for the paw, found it and wished for the son to be gone, just as Mrs White undid the latch; immediately the knocking stopped.
