  • Password attacks are a type of cyber threat often divided into three categories. Types of password attacks include brute force, keylogger, and social engineering attacks.

  • Brute force attacks are when the hacker uses the most common and easy to guess passwords to try to get into a device or program. Specific applications are designed to aid with brute force attacks.

  • Key logger password attacks are a type of malware that is downloaded onto the victim's computer/device. This malware tracks the users keystrokes. In essence, the attacker can view what keys the victim types into their computer/device.
  • Social engineering is anther type of password attack. This method relies on the human quality to be over-trusting and gullible. Victims are tricked into providing their passwords.
  • Password attacks can be combated by using creative passwords that are greater in length. Avoid common passwords and use as many characters as possible.  Also, avoid spam emails and questionable websites.
