  • Hello! I am Bilal Daher, the medical consultant you called. I heard one of your kids got infected by a bacterial disease. We will have to take her to the hospital for a checkup.
  • Yes please, she hasn't been feeling well after playing in the park. We saw a tick biting her and after that, she got sick the next day. I don't know why she is sick but she isn't feeling well.
  • I ordered from a restaurant 4 times that week, the food was delicious . I also went out with my friends into a forest to adventure and hike.
  • Dr. Bilal Daher
  • I need to ask you some questions about your week's activities.Where did u go other than the park?Have you gone to a restaurant or ordered food?Did you walk you dog in a grassy area?
  • I got sick after the hiking trip directly, however, I did walk my dog twice this week in a grassy area.
  • Please tell me she is ok, how long will she stay here to recover from the disease and which medication should she take?
  • We have to do some tests and observe her for a while. Based on the test results we start the medication.
  • Based on your activities last week, I suspect you have "Lyme Disease" You caught a bacteria," from a tick. She got it when she was hiking or in the park.
  • And what type of medication you will give her to recover from this disease?
  • Based on my observations, she is having high and persistent fever, which we are giving medication for a rash, she is feeling fatigue and have headache episodes.
  • So she will stay in the hospital till she shows signs of improvement. Then she will be discharged.
  • Since the Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called "Borrelia Burgdorferi." She will take antibiotics to help fight the disease, the treatment she will be receiving is Doxycycline OR, Cefuroxime. It will help treat the disease. It is also important to read how many milligrams to give each day.
  • You can wear thick clothes and gloves if it is cold, you will also make it hard for the tick to reach the skin and bite. Incase its hot or warm, wear light clothes to make it easy to spot and remove any biting tick and avoid grassy areas to avoid ticks in there. For prevention of an outbreak, spread the word to the community about ticks and where they live, how it spread and anyway for it to attach and infect the community.
  • So, how will we help prevent the disease for our family. And how do we stop it from becoming an outbreak?
  • Thank you Dr. for helping my daughter.
