The Fire represents the hope and desire to go home. As the fire goes out so does the desire to be rescued. "There was a ship out there. you said you would keep the fire going and you let it out!"(Golding 68)
The Beast represents the irrational fears the boys experience on the island. "...talk of a thing, a dark thing ,a beast, some sort of animal." (Golding 83)
The offering the boys make to the "Beast" represents a growing savageness among the boys. "They listened, and the loudest noise was the buzzing of flies over the spilled guts"
Piggy's glasses represent their tie to civilization and technology "have some sense what can piggy do with only one eye" (Golding 37)
The Scar represents the great impact and amount of damage the boys will inflict on the island. "Behind this was the darkness of the forest proper and the open space of the scar" (Golding 10)
The conch represents the initial desire of society and order within the group. But the conch quickly loses power as Ralph does at well "The being that had blown that had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees was set apart" (Golding 22)
