Storyboard Text

  • God I hate this job, I just wish it was time to go home already.
  • The industrial revolution was very hard for the factory workers, as they dealt with bad conditions and low wages in the factories.
  • WORK FASTER! HOW IS IT SO HARD TO MAKE MICROSCOPES?
  • Because of these hard lives, people turned to drinking alcohol to make them feel better.
  • This is so much better than working!
  • From now on I'm coming here every night after work!
  • Oh my head hurts, I can't even build properly cause i'm too dizzy from the alcohol!
  • I'm so drunk right now I tripped and fell into machinery. Now I lost my arm!
  • This lead to the majority of the factory workforce being drunks, making a lot of factory work inefficient.
  • Local groups began to fight alcohol, like the American Temperance Society in 1826. The church supported these groups.
  •  ALCOHOL  IS SIN
  • These groups preached Temperance, which was absolutely no alcohol whatsoever.
  • TEMPERANCE IS PREFERENCE
  • Children had a club to fight the consumption of alcohol as well, called the "Cold Water Army."
  • Quit Alcohol Today!
  • Join the Cold Water Army!
  • Adult and Child Temperance groups utilized a lot of advertising to spread their word.
  • God is watching you getting drunk.
  • As much as the Temperance groups pushed, alcohol was not made illegal and it was impossible to legislate at this time. The Temperance movement was unsuccessful at this point in history.
