  • Building SMOTA
  • Bishop Stewart invited the FMDM from Ireland to Australia to build a school for the growing soldier settlement community.
  • Grand Open Day
  • When they first arrived in Australia in December 1960, they first visited Melbourne, then came to Nathalia where they received a garden party as a welcome gift. Archbishop Matrix greeted them in Melbourne to Nathalia.
  • Houses
  • The Sisters (Mother Mary of of the cross with sisters, Gertrude, Cecilia, Laurentia an John the Baptist) relied heavily on donations made by parents and parishioners, as the Church only donated the land. The first building accomplished was the Nuns convent. 
  • SMOTA Now
  • SMOTA officially opened on the 8 of February 1961. There were only 120 primary students and 5 secondary students in the beginning.
  • The houses were named after St's, they were St Claire, St Francis and St Elizabeth.
  • SMOTA in 2018 has over 650 students and about 60 staff members.
