A small group of African Elephants remain as a drought has killed off most of the speices. The drought has harmed the population of elephants in all of Africa.
The journey to find water is hard but through speciation new desired traits are beginning to show in the offsping. Their skin is becoming even more resistant to the African sun and their trunks are stronger allowing them to dig deeper for water.
As these offspring grow up they are becoming reproductively isolated, to keep the lineage going they only breed with Elephants of the same species so their offpsring can inherit the desirable characteristics
There are now no more of the original elephants in the herd, only the new sympatric species. The offsping now have even more desirable traits than their parents. They are managing to survive with the little water they recieve every day
For a short period of time the rain falls again but the elephants know that when the drought inevitably returns they will be able to survive it
