Once upon a time there was a man named Louie Zamperini. He had just signed up to be in the U.S. air force and was ready for a fight.
But one day while flying on a search mission, his plane malfunctioned leaving him, his friend, and a crewmate stranded at sea.
There they sat, days on end. Looking for food, water, and any other mode of survival. And even when one died Louie was determined to stay alive and keep everyone with him. Together Louie and his friend caught fish, fought off sharks, and defended themselves against Japanese planes.
After surviving on the raft, they were caught. The Japanese hurt Louie and his friend but even still, Louie was still determined to stay alive.
Afterwards, Louie and his friend parted ways and Louie was transferred to a camp where he did lots of grueling work hurting himself daily. Even still he remained determined to stay alive and never give up. He knew the war would be over soon.
Finally, the war was over. Louie had made it out alive. With his determination to serve his country and come back home, he overcame anything that came to him. He went back home where he leaned a life lesson and decided to speak about the lesson he had learned.
