  • A meeting to discuss the tax on tea was held at the Meeting House. The Sons of Liberty decided they would dress as Native Americans and boycott the tea. There were thousands at the meeting. The crowd marched to Griffin's Wharf.
  • 116 people are documented as participating, because identities were kept secret. Colonists wearing Indian Dress smashed open 340 chests of tea. The chests of tea were dumped into the Boston Harbor. Great care was taken to avoid damaging the ships.
  • Nothing was stolen or taken from the ships. The colonists swept and cleaned up the tea after participating. The colonists would search for any tea being stolen. Britain shut down the Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for, and the Intolerable Acts were passed as a result.
