So, the recent classes made me remember when I first saw Beowulf, about ten years ago.
My parents rented it and we watched it in family. Though, this was definitely NOT a movie for a 6 year old child. ( Back then I did not know.)
It was just awfully scary. I cried and had nightmares for a while… Yeah I used to be quite a crybaby...
I guess you must be wondering now: But why did this Beowulf movie make you cry this much?
First,Beowulf is an old ( if not the oldest) epic poem written by an unknown person. Although it is old, it is still very popular even today because of its style of writing and the context underlying its story.
Side note :An epic is a poem telling the deeds or the journey of a hero
Since it is an epic poem, it follows epic poetry conventions. For instance, it is written in a really high level of English, higher than academic. Therefore, it has extravagant expressions such as: " A stout wave-walker he bade make ready".
