After finding out that the pigs slept in beds, Beauty thought he remembered the 7 commandments said that no animal could sleep in a bed ¨with sheets¨. However, we know that this isn't what the commandment said before, and someone ( most likely the pigs) changed it.
Can you read me the 4th commandment ? Doesn't it say something about
Sure Beauty. It says,¨No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets.¨
Oh, so you've heard That we sleep in a bed? Well,a bed is just a place to sleep in,and it doesn't go against the commandment.
Squealer walks by and sees them talking about the issue with beds, so he assures Beauty that there was never a rule against beds, just sheets. Here, the suspense builds because we know that squealer is lying about the sheet rule, but Beauty doesn't.
Hmm.... I really thought it said ¨No animal shall sleep in a bed.¨
We need the beds to rest well, since we do all the brainwork. Surely you don't want jones back. Do you?
After Squealer threatens him with Jones coming back, Beauty seems a lot more sure that he just made a mistake, and that the commandment has been the same all along. Overall, this is dramatic irony because as a reader, I know that the commandment has been changed (most likely by the pigs), but Beauty doesn't know, nor do the other animals on the farm.
No I don't. I guess it's written, so it must be right. I probably remembered it wrong. Anyways, you do need to sleep well.
