  • James Madison got Congress to declare war on Britain when Britain didn't stop impressing American Sailors. This war was referred as The War of 1812.
  • Francis Scott Key
  • I agree, Mr President
  • Major causes of the war were impressment and Native American resistance. The British were taking our sailors and Native Americans who were made at us for taking their land made alliances with Britain.
  • Battle of New Orleans
  • The Americans won most of these battles and they took control of the Great Lakes. British troops were forced out by American naval force when a fleet came and wiped them out.
  • Effects of The War of 1812
  • Fort McHenry was being bombarded by the British on The War of 1812 and in the morning a giant flag was being flow over the fort symbolizing American victory. Francis Scott Key got inspired and wrote the National Anthem.
  • Andrew Jackson became a war hero after The Battle of New Orleans when he was outnumbered 2:1 by the British. He won with minimal casualties while, the British had a lot. This led to him becoming President.
  • One of the effects of 1812 was the industrial revolution in America. Another effect was the respect from other countries and an increase in patriotism. Also, Native American resistance deminished
