this story takes place in the turn of the 20th century. In Ohio there lived a boy named Johnathan who worked for Rockefeller in his oil company.
the power of industrial industry
Throughout Johnathan life working for Rockefeller company named slandered oil. he started to notice that within a decade Rockefeller company controlled 90% of refining business. This was a issue because Rockefeller reaped huge profits by paying his employees very low wages and driving his competitors out of business.
Get back to work! or you'll wage will be even lower!
This affected Johnathan because of how little money he was able to make to support his family, due to Rockefeller giving low wages he was unable to help his family during the cold winters and when they were sick.
in the 1700s, skilled workers had come together and form small local unions. the first large scale national organization of laborers, the national labor union (NLU) was formed in 1886 by iron worker William H. Sylvis. the NLU organizers concentrated on linking existing local unions. in 1869, Uriah Stephensfocused his attention on idividual workers and organized the nobel order of the knights of labor.
LETS STOP UNFAIR WAGES!
The knights of labor's job was to make sure everyone, male and or female were to get paid equally for the amount of time they worked. this allowed people to not get low wages from Rockefellers company and so he stopped monopolizing evrything.
This made America chnage because if it wasn't for the knights of labor, people would most likely still be getting low wages if not possibly lower wages. and we would possibly still have a 7-day work week without any breaks even if we have injuries.
