The story of Atalanta starts when her father, King Iacus, threw her in the woods because he wanted a son, and she was adopted by a mother bear. The bear was killed by hunters, and she was then adopted by hunters.
Then, a prince named Meleager came to the hunters with a problem: the Calydonian Boar. Atalanta saved his life, and then Meleager and Atalanta killed it together, and he fell in love with her. She didn't love him back and they became best friends, but his mother ended up killing him.
Atalanta became famous, and she eventually meet her father, the king, who never had a male heir.
So, he told her that she could have the throne, but she had to get married. She didn't want to, so they made a compromise.
The deal was that Atalanta would race any man who challenged her, and if she lost, she had to marry him. She won every race until a man named Hippomenes challenged her.
Hippomenes asked Aphrodite for something to help him win the race, and so she gave him three golden apples. She told him to throw the apples on the side of the road, and because they are magic, Atalanta will be forced to stop running and eat them.
Atalanta and Hippomenes got married, but instead of thanking Aphrodite, he made the mistake of thanking Zeus. So, she sent a wave of hormones through the two while they were at Zeus' temple so they would do the nasty. Zeus got mad and then turned both of them into lions. The end.
