The star starts as a cloud of gas in space known as a nebula
Next, gravity compresses this dust and gas to make a regular star that will last for a long time
After a long time, the sun expands a little and becomes a red giant.
Then, the sun "explodes" and forms a supernova, becoming very massive.
After this extreme event, the sun compresses into a white dwarf which has extreme gravity.
Over time, the star on the HR diagram moves over to the right. When a white dwarf, it moves back to the left due to the size and amount of light it gives off.
