  • But, Miss. Almonte what if  phenomelanin pigmented person lives in the equator like Africa?
  • that is another true scenario that I can explain
  • Now jimmy, to answer your question, if a phenomelanin pigmented person lives in a place like Africa that is mostly in the equator, then what will happen is that their will be to much UV light, because the sun mostly hits in the equator, and what will happen is that because that person have thin and light pigmented melanin then the UV light radiation will passe threw the melanin and will make a damage in your DNA, which means it it will mutate one or more genes and that is some thing bad because it can lead to diseases like skin cancer.
  • Miss. Almonte, what is vitamin B9 or also known as Folate?
  • Folate is a B-vitamin that is naturally present in many foods. It is useful for DNA replication in dividing cells.
  • What's the connection between Folate and UV light?
  • Jimmy you ask to much questions, but this will be the last one I will answer.
  • Too much ultraviolet radiation penetrating the skin may cause the breakdown of folate in the body, which can cause anemia, which is A condition in which the blood doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells. Scientist said's that the ability to produce melanin was selected for in our early human ancestors because it helped preserve the body's supply of folate. Also folate can reduce the chances to develope cancer.
  • Thank you so much Miss. Almonte, I have learn a lot about the evolution of skin color and how each of us have diffrent skin color, I also learn that everybody should wear sunscreen to protect them selfs from UV light radiation, and that I should go to my doctor as soon as possible, to get a blood test, to check my vitamin D, and vitamin B9 count.
  • I'm glad that you learn a lot from my teaching and that you are being aware of the causes of UV light radiation; And ps: jimmy you are my favorite student.
