A big theme in this story is all is fair in love and war. What this means is since socs and greasers hate each other with a dying passion all is fair to do anything to get rid of one another.
Theme development #3
The Scene that develops the theme is when Johnny kills one of the socs. What this scene is showing is Ponyboy and Johnny are by a fountain after being at the movies with a couple of girls. The girls were socs and when the socs gang found out they hunted Ponyboy and Johnny. When they spotted them by the fountain they out number the two boys. When they started to fight they took Ponyboy and started to drown him in the fountain. When Johnny saw he fought off the socs and actually killed one of them.
Another scene that develops the theme is when Ponyboy And Cherry are at the movies. The characters in this scene are Cherry, Ponyboy, Johnny, soda pop, Cherry's friend, and Darry. They are at the movie theater watching a movie and talking bout the rivalry and hate between the two groups. Both of them think that it is ridiculous and should not be happening but still joke with each other and have a good time, but when Cherry mentions how "Darry is a major hunk" and enjoys his other traits. Ponyboyboy becomes bitter because he feels Darry dislikes him.
" I think Darry is A hunk."
The last scene that develops the theme is when Johnny and Ponyboy were trying to run from the Socs in the Blue mustang. The characters in this scene are Ponyboy, Johnny, and Socs. what happens in this scene is the two boys are being hunted because they were hanging with Cherry and her friend at the movies. This shows that all is fair in love and war is because Socs have cars because they have money unlike the Greasers that dont.
"Run! Here they come."
I predict that Greasers and Socs will be able to live as one group and be able to live together with out hate. That would mean no more killing. It would also mean no more fights or arguments between the two groups. It will releive stress and pressure for people like Cherry and Ponyboy or are in the middle of it all.
