Storyboard Text

  • Guess what, David? I learned about Newton's 3 Laws of Motion in class this week.
  • Awesome!
  • Can you give me some examples of what you have covered so far?
  • Newton's First Law of Motion: An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
  • Of course! It is because of Newton's First Law of motion that we stay where we are right now! Because we are not acted upon by another unbalanced force, we don't move.
  • Is there a Law that relates to the dishes that waiter just dropped?
  • CLACK!!! CRASH!!!
  • Newton's Second Law of Motion: The acceleration of an object increases with increased force and decreases with increased mass. The direction the object accelerates is the same direction as the force.
  • Yup! According to Newton's Second Law of Motion,  the acceleration of the dishes as they fell to the floor is directly related to the mass of the dishes and the force of gravity on them.
  • So, there's a law for everything?
