Yes, Mary. Let's go to Ford's Theater and watch a play.
Abe, how about you take a break from work and let's have a night out?
On April 14, 1865, President Lincoln and his wife went out to see the play "Our American Cousin" near the White House.
Since the summer of 1864, John Wilkes Booth began developing plans to kidnap Abraham Lincoln. He was a Southerner that hated the thought of Lincoln and the North winning the war. Booth wanted to help the South.
On April 14, 1865 I will kill Lincoln, Lewis will kill the Secretary of State, and George will kill the Vice-President!
John Wilkes Booth was able to get into the "Presidential Box." where he would have a good shot at killing Lincoln. Henry Rathbone, a military officer, was with the couple.
What a great play!
Lincoln was shot in the back of the head. Henry Rathbone was not able to catch Booth, so Booth ran away and escaped Ford's Theater. A doctor in the audience rushed to help the president. Lincoln did not die immediately but went to the Peterson House to be treated.
Hey, you! Get back here!
No God, please don't take Abe away!
Lincoln will be remembered for being one of the greatest presidents of all time.
Unfortunately, President Lincoln died the next morning. He was the first president ever to be killed. After less than a month after his death, The Civil War ended.
May God bless Abe's soul. Rest in peace my love.
Four of the people who aided John Wilkes Booth were hung while the others went to prison. Booth was shot when he refused to surrender to police. Lincoln's body was taken to Illinois where he would be buried in his hometown.
It's alright guys, we will die for a cause and hopefully the South should be winning The Civil War.
