Storyboard Text

  • Oh my, I've got to teach a lesson on the water cycle.
  •  Last year, my  activities were a lot of  fun, but the students did not do well on the tests from the textbook!
  • Pssst!
  • Holy bologna!! What are you doing here?
  • You should try making your lesson with Backward Design!
  • What is Backward Design?
  • Instead of creating your lesson based off of activities, you start with the objectives and assessments!
  • Well, there are 3 stages.
  • I guess that makes sense, tell me more!
  • First, you decide what is worthy of understanding; think of which content standards you will cover.
  • Standard: Water on Earth moves between the oceans and land through the processes of evaporation and condensation.  SWBAT create a water cycle chart, using terms such as condensation, evaporation, and precipitation
  • Okay, so I start with my objectives. Then what?
  • Now, you need to think of how you will collect evidence to show that students achieved your objective. What assessments will you use?
  • I will have them turn in a completed chart with the appropriate labels.
  • Precipitation
  • Condensation
  • Evaporation
  • To be continued...
