Storyboard Description

A perception that I hold about my self is being a hard worker. I believe working hard and going the extra mile has a great deal of benefits. I also believe this perception has lead to behavior of me feeling stressed.

Storyboard Text

  • Shanna, I'm glad we were able to finish our project. It looks great! You're a hard worker and we make a great team!
  • Frankie Thinking: I'm happy we didn't have to go the extra mile on this one.
  • Shanna Thinking: Hmm...maybe we didn't go the extra mile to make it be the best. Maybe there are a few charts I can add in the presentation for better visuals.
  • Thanks, Frankie! I think we make a great team too! You know I believe that my hard work and going the extra mile will pay off!
  • The next day
  • I'm going to spend a little bit more time to add a few more charts and graphics to our presentation. This is a great opportunity for Frankie and I to display what we can do!
  • Shanna has been participating in major sporting competitions. She has also been staying up late each night to finish the project that was truly done 3 days ago. She is now stressed out because she may not be able to add all of the additional finishing touches in time. She also hasn't been performing her best in the competitions because she is so stressed out.
  • Shanna is angry that she let her "hard worker/going the extra mile" behavior cause her so much stress in the last three days. The presentation was great the way it was. But now she can not fail and has to follow through no matter the stress level.
  • According to Greensberg (2013), "we become afraid to fail or do something different and we develop unrealistic fears because of beliefs that, if examined, would provide to be irrational". (pg.197) Greensburg, J., (2013). Comprehensive Stress Management. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill
  • Shanna, I noticed that you haven't been your normal self lately. You seemed like you have been dragging, irritable, and even grumpy at times.
  • I'm sorry, Frankie. I had no idea it was noticeable. I have been working tirelessly to add additional charts and graphs to our presentation. I have also been competing in my sports events. Here ya' go. In my bag.
  • Wow, Shanna! I appreciate you going the extra mile, but you really didn’t need to do that this tie. There was no need for the added stress. It was perfect the way it was.
  • You’re right, Frankie. Sometimes I may go overboard with going the extra mile and bring added stress in my life when it’s really not necessary. I can say that I started to do a lot of self talk and thought stopping to shut of negative thoughts. It actually worked!
