King Laius and queen Jocasta recently had a new baby boy. A prophet comes to the king and queen and explains the prophecy of their son.
We need to get rid of him.
Oracle says your son will kill his father and marry his mother.
What will we ever do!
The king and queen decided to get rid of their son to prevent the oracle from coming true. By taking their son into the forest and leaving him alone for death, the king and queen go on living normal lives.
Upon leaving the child alone, a shepherd discovers the boy and takes him to be raised by the king of Corinth.
Once Oedipus became an adult, he later discovered his oracle and set off to Thebes to avoid his fate.
Along the journey, Oedipus encounters another man and gets in a argument. Angry, Oedipus kills the man not knowing who he was. Little did Oedipus know, this man was his father.
Finally Oedipus reaches Thebes. Shortly after entering, Oedipus learns quickly that the city is under attack by the sphinx. Rumors also spread that the king of Thebes had died.
