As Theseus is preparing for his wedding, Egeus brings to him the problem of Hermia and Lysander wanting to marry, despite him wanting her to marry Demetrius. Theseus threatens death or chastity if Hermia does not marry Demetrius.
Act 3: Climax
Hermia and Lysander run away into the forest, with Helena and Demetrius following. In conflict with Titania, Oberon has Puck seek out the juice of a flower of love for use on Titania.
Act 4: Falling Action
Oberon orders Puck to use it on Demetrius to make him fall in love with Helena, but he accidentally uses it on Lysander, and is then ordered to use it on Demetrius. They both fall in love with Helena.
Act 5: Resolution
As all of the Athenians fall asleep, Puck uses an antidote on Lysander to return him to Hermia, and makes all of them think the events were a dream.
When the group awakens they run into Theseus. Seeing that Demetrius now loves Helena, he pardons Hermia and declares that the two couples shall also marry at his wedding.
The group questions the reality of their dreams, but all happily marry.
