Storyboard Text

  • Development of the Plantation System
  • I agree.
  • Angela, the crops have been doing so well on our plantation. We are getting plenty of money to support our family. However, the crops are growing fast and we need help with picking the crops.
  • The Growth of the Transatlantic Slave Trade
  • This slave will get me so much money. And imagine all the popularity I will gain from this. Everyone will want to be my friend because I sold a slave and made big bucks!
  • My poor family. I will never see them again. I will never have freedom again. I will be slave for the rest of my life. Life couldn't get any worse.
  • Spread of Slavery
  • I'm happy you're here. We've needed you. It's crazy how fast the spread of slavery has gone. Everyone in the south needs a slave. What do y'all slaves expect. For use to do it on our own? Never. That's why slaves are so important.
  • I disagree, sir. I think that white people can work just as hard as African slaves. You just need to be willing to get your hands dirty.
  • Mr. Johnson, the plantation owner, is speaking to his wife about his plantation and how well it is doing growing the cash crops. However, he thinks that they need a slave because their crops are growing at an exceeding rate and it's hard to stay on top of things when he is picking crops only with his wife and kids.
  • West Indies businessperson, Devin Godwin, is about to trade a slave. All he is thinking about is the profit and the popularity he will gain from this. Meanwhile, the slave can't stop thinking about his family; his wife, his kids. He knows that he will never see them again, and will never have freedom again.
  • The slave and Mr. Johnson are outside in the fields and Mr. Johnson is explaining to his new slave what he will be doing for the rest of his life. While they are talking, they get onto the subject of the spread of slavery over the past few months. Mr. Johnson believes that slavery is needed, and the slave thinks the complete opposite.
