"One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture-a pale blue eye, with a film over it" The mad man is walking by the old man and thinks about his evil eye.
"And every night, about midnight I turned the latch of his door and opened it" The mad man looking at the old man while he sleeps.
"My thumb slipped upon the tin fastening, and the old man sprang up in the bed, crying out who's there?" In the picture, the madman is quiet because the old man heard him coming in.
"In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him." The mad man has just killed the old man.
"As the bell sounded the hour, there came a knocking on the street door." The police are knocking on the old mans door.
"I admit the deed!-tear up the planks!" The madman admits to killing the old man.
