Ireland's social class was divided into two parts, the wealthy landlords, and those who could barely survive, living on the streets.
Kids were mistreated, overworked, and payed almost nothing. Something had to change if Ireland wanted to stay stable.
One man, Jonathan Swift, took matters into his own hands. He wrote a letter suggesting how to save the economy of Ireland. This letter was called, A Modest Proposal.

However Jonathan wrote his proposal as satire. He joking suggested to eat babies, and many people believed that was what he meant.
However people later realized the true intention of the writing was ways in which people can better Irelands society
Jonathan became a well known and respected satirical writer, The Modest Proposal may be a perfect example of satires influence.
