  • Ireland's social class was divided into two parts, the wealthy landlords, and those who could barely survive, living on the streets.
  • Kids were mistreated, overworked, and payed almost nothing. Something had to change if Ireland wanted to stay stable.
  • One man, Jonathan Swift, took matters into his own hands. He wrote a letter suggesting how to save the economy of Ireland. This letter was called, A Modest Proposal.

  • However Jonathan wrote his proposal as satire. He joking suggested to eat babies, and many people believed that was what he meant.
  • However people later realized the true intention of the writing was ways in which people can better Irelands society
  • Jonathan became a well known and respected satirical writer, The Modest Proposal may be a perfect example of satires influence.
