Storyboard Text

  • I was a Philosopher, writer, and political theorist.
  • I Jean-Jacques Rousseau, was born on June 28, 1712, in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Even though I was the least academic, I became the most influential.
  • My upbringing contributed to my ideas that early education is based mainly on senses and  that learning is done through trial and error.
  • I was not very educated as a child and this is why I was known as the least academic philospher.
  • This means that government is created by and subject to the will of the people.
  • We, the people, run this show.
  • I believed in the popular sovreignty form of government.
  • Women are also much weaker and less rational than men. This is why women are dependent on men.
  • I believed that people were good by nature.
  • People were simply corrupted by the abnormalities of civilization.
  • Evidence for God can be seen in nature and the things all around us.
  •  “I perceive God everywhere in His works. I sense Him in me; I see Him all around me”
  • I placed a trust in nature because I believed in nature's God.
  • His ideas still impact today and have influenced many things such as the French Revolution and the Romantic generation.
  • Rousseau died July 2, 1778, in Ermenonville, France
