CALL TO ADVENTURE Odysseus leaves Ithaca to fight in the Trojan War. The war lasts 10 years. Odysseus devises the wooden horse plan and the Greeks win. After the war was over, Odysseus and his men sail home to Ithaca.
MENTORS/HELPERS Some people wanted to help Odysseus and his men on their journey. Tiresias was a blind prophet who advised and warned Odysseus about what was going to happen. Circe was an enchantress who gave Odysseus advice about how to get past the Sirens, Scylla, and the Charybdis. Athena turned Odysseus into a poor person so that he could get into the palace.
TESTS/ENEMIES Odysseus had many enemies and test he had to get through. The Sirens are the creatures whose songs lure sailors to their deaths. The Scylla is a sea monster of gray rock who killed some of Odysseus's men. The Charybdis is an enormous and dangerous whirlpool that can swallow the ship and the sailors. The Cyclops that imprisoned Odysseus, Polyphemus. The Lotus Eaters caused a delay to their journey and Poseidon and Zeus causes rough waters and bad weather.
