Storyboard Text

  • Hi, I'm Jane Ellen and I am 16 years old. I currently attend high school and live in Oklahoma on a farm. After high school, I plan to take over my family's farm.
  • The Great Depression has officially affected my home. My home is ruined and everything we own is gone.
  • My father says we have to move because our farm is destroyed. My parents are disappointed because the dust bowl has ruined everything. We're heading to California to make a new living.
  • We made it to California. My parents are struggling to find a job. I left school to watch over my siblings while my parents look for work. This life style has been challenging.
  • Thanks to President Roosevelt's new deal program, I am able to overcome my challenges . I am going to get a grant to restart my education, but I must work as a janitor to receive this opportunity.
  • The Great Depression is coming to an end. Both of my parents are finally employed. I am almost done with high school and about to head to college. Now life is amazing.
