  • Peace Please
  • Cuba used exageration called yellow journalism to make the U.S. help them in the war.
  • The U.S.S Maine blew up killing about 250 American sailors. The public blamed Spain.
  • President McKinley is being begged by Cuba to help them in the war, but McKinley is keeping peace.
  • Demands to Spain were money for the Maine, No reconcentration camps, peace to Cuba, Cuban independence.
  • The U.S. signed the Treaty of Paris with Spain in December 1898. In the treaty, the Spanish government recognized Cuba’s independence.
  • Spain gave the U.S the Philippines, Puerto Rico and the Pacific Island of Guam to the United States In return for $20 Million. These lands were not intended for eventual statehood.
