Storyboard Text

  • Raymond, don't mess up my breathing exercises.
  • Of course I am. I'm the best and everybody knows it.
  • You running in the May Day race Squeaky?
  • If you got anything to say you can say it to me!
  • Are you his mother now?
  • What grade are you in Raymond?
  • Squeaky is walking down Broadway practicing her breathing exercises. While her brother Raymond uses his imagination to pretend he is a circus performer. We learn about Squeaky that she isn't scared of nobody and will fight them if necessary. Squeaky is focused on running and that's all she cares about; aside from her brother Raymond of course.
  • My name is Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker and I'm going to run like I would run any other race.
  • Squeaky how about you let one of the other kids win the race for once? You always come in first.
  • While Squeaky is walking down Broadway doing her breathing exercises she runs into Gretchen. Gretchen has freckles and she runs as well and she thinks shes the best. But as anyone can tell you Squeaky says that she is the best. Squeaky knows she is the best and that no one can beat her besides her father but she doesn't tell anyone that.
  • Oh my goodness Raymond you're running!
  • I will beat you Squeaky.
  • Gretchen and her friends began to pick on Raymond. Raymond is slower so he can't really defend for himself. But Squeaky sure can and she did. Squeaky sticks up for her brother and Gretchen and her posse sure had something to say about it. But Squeaky didn't care what any of them had to say.
  • You did good Gretchen!
  • Thank you. You did good too.
  • Squeaky always comes late to the May Day race because before they have a pageant and Squeaky doesn't want to sit there and watch that. While signing up for the May Day race and getting her ticket, Squeaky runs into her teacher Mr. Pearson. Mr. Pearson tries to persuade Squeaky to let someone else win the race for once and that isn't okay with Squeaky. Squeaky nicknames her teacher Beanstalk because he always wears stilts.
  • Right before racing Squeaky relaxes and gets in the zone. Then the race begins and nothing else maters to Squeaky than making it to the finish line. She looks to her left and she sees nobody. She looks to the right and sees Gretchen running with her chin up like that will help her win the race. After passing the finish line it took the judges awhile to figure out who actually won the race.
  • In the very end Squeaky wins the race and realizes that Gretchen isn't as bad as she thought she was. Squeaky also thinks about retiring from running to become Raymond's coach because Squeaky saw him running and notices he can actually run really well. She also thinks that Gretchen can help co-coach Raymond.
