September 6th, they set out to sail. Many passengers became sea sick. A man who was condemning the poor people in their sickness became sick himself and was thrown overboard.
They faced severe storms. The ships beams were cracking and the upper works became leaky. They began to consider their options, and decided to put a big screw in the beam, and caulk the upper works and the deck and continue the journey.
The storms continued on with high winds. A young man named John Howland came above the gratings and was, with a seele, thrown into the sea. But he caught hold of the topsail. With a boat hook and other means he was saved.
