There once lived a ruler of a kingdom in Mesopotamia, his name was Gilgamesh. He was very rude to his people.
Please help us!
His people were scared of him and they had to pray to the sky god, Anu.
Anu decided to answer their prayers and asked the goddess Aruru to make a man who was a strong Gilgamesh. They named him Enkidu.
A hunter managed to see Enkidu at a waterhole three days in a row. The hunter was scared and decided to run home to tell his father. His father told him to tell Gilgamesh.
Please help me King Gilgamesh! I've spotted a beast-like man in the forest.
Use this woman as bait to capture this man.
The hunter ran off to tell King Gilgamesh of the man.
Now in a different part of the forest...
Enkidu fell in love with the woman, Shamhat. Enkidu changed himself so that he was a kind man. Shamhat taught Enkidu how to speak, eat, and dress properly so that Shamhat could take him to meet Gilgamesh.
The two met and Gilgamesh disliked the man. He still thought that Enkidu was a beast. The fought each other, equal in strength
Finally, King Gilgamesh won and Enkidu accepted that Gilgamesh was better than him and they became best friends.
