  • Here Antigone is trying to explain to Ismene the necessity of giving their brother the burial he deserves.
  • "Why do you speak so strangely" (13).
  • "They say that Creon has sworn No one shall burry him, no one mourn for him," (19-20).
  • In this scene, the theme of determination can be shown when Antigone states not even the law of man is going to stand in her way.
  • "Bury him! You have just said the new law forbids it" (32)!
  • "Creon is not enough to stand in my way" (15).
  • "I am so afraid for you" (67)!
  • Here Ismene understands that nothing can stop Antigone, which worries her.
  • "You need not be: You have yourself to consider, after all" (68-69).
  • Here the theme of morality can be shown when Creon begins to argue his point of view on the laws that should be followed.
  • "I do. I deny nothing" (352).
  • "And yet you dared defy the law" (356).
  • "This girl is guilty of a double insolence, Breaking the given laws and boasting of it" (380-381).
  • In this scene the theme continues in Antigone's disagreement that the law of the Gods comes before man.
  • "The immortal unrecorded laws of God" (361).
  • Here no resolution is founded, both Creon and Antigone are standing by their beliefs.
  • "Maybe. But you are guilty, and they are not" (405).
  • "There is no guilt in reverence for the dead" (406).
