Storyboard Text

  • Act 1: Scene 1
  • Stay! Speak, Speak! I charge thee, Speak!
  • Act 1: Scene 2
  • My lord, the king your father.
  • The king my father?!
  • Act 1: Scene 3
  • Perhaps he loves you now, and now no soil nor cattle doth besmirch The virtue of his will, but you must fear.
  • The play opens outside the castle. Bernardo and Marcellus, two soldiers, have witnessed the ghost of the former King of Denmark, Old Hamlet. Horatio is invited to verify the hot sighting. The ghost disappears and reappears, but remains silent.
  • Act 1: Scene 4
  • It will not speak. Then I will follow it.
  • Horatio tells Hamlet that he had seen his dead father the night before. Hamlet decides to go on watch with Horatio and Marcellus that night in hopes of seeing the ghost himself. 
  • Act 1: Scene 5
  • Laertes advices Ophelia about her relationship with Hamlet. He tells Ophelia to forget about her relationship with Hamlet and to guard her Chasity. Ophelia agrees to attend to his lesson.
  • End of Act 1
  • End of Act 1!
  • At night watch, Hamlet, Horatio and Marcellus await the reappearance of the ghost. The ghost reappears. The ghost beckons for Hamlet to follow him. Horatio and Marcellus attempt to keep Hamlet from following the ghost, but Hamlet does not listen.
  • Alone with Hamlet, the ghost speaks. The ghost reveals the he was murdered by his won brother, Claudius, the current king of Denmark. The ghost demands vengeance upon Claudius. Hamlet decides to act mad in order to gain revenge upon his fathers murderer.
  • My uncle? O my prophetic soul!
