The prisoners would be marched by one of the doctors who would make spot decisions as they walked by. Those who were fit for work were sent into the camp, others were sent immediately to the extermination plants. Children of tender years were invariably exterminated, since by reason of their youth they were unable to work.
In September there were rumours that the Germans intended to deport all Denmarks 7,000 Jews. a scientist Niels Bohr escaped to Sweden to ask for help. The Swedish government agreed. The day before the round up, most of Denmark's Jews were smuggled ny Danish fisherman to neutral Sweden
At one of the death camp on October 600 Jewish Slave labourers were being forced to dig up and burn the bodies of those were killed. Armed with knives and hatchets they attacked their guards, killed 9 SS men and 2 Ukrainians. About 100 escaped to the forests and joined partisan groups fighting the Germans. The rest were shot.
