Storyboard Text

  • Influenced by the Bolshevik Revolution and his thoughts of an independent Vietnam, he visited the Soviet Union and joined the Communist Party. He helped found the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930 and the League for the Independence of Vietnam, or Viet Minh, in 1941. 
  • After WWII, the Viet Minh attacked North Vietnam seizing control over Vietnamese city of Hanoi. Under communist rule, North Vietnam was opposed by other anti-communist countries like the US.
  • In 1954, world powers agree to divide Vietnam. Also, US officially gets involved with Vietnam. In 1955, war in Vietnam began against Communism. The US would do anything to stop the spread of Communism.
  • Healthy, young men where drafted to Vietnam to fight for the US during the years of 1964-1973.  They were vulnerable to be drafted in the age of 18-26.
  • THE DRAFT
  • Rebel teens like hippies and Students for a Democratic Society protested against the draft and the Vietnam war. They saw the war as pointless. It was not the US' job to intervene. Protests began in 1964 when the war kept escalating. 
  • Due to the many protests against the war, US president Richard Nixon came up with the strategy of Vietnamization to slowly remove US troops from Vietnam. The plan was to supply South Vietnam with weapons and not soldiers.
