The federal government created laws to restrict freedom of speech. Also they stopped numerous magazines and newspapers to come out. The government charged many people who broke this law.

The War Industries Board was in charge of of the production of war elements. They also had authority over the production of raw materials and the prices of manufactured goods. For them to have efficiency, they established specifications on everything.
EFFECTS FOR U.S. IMMIGRANTS
WE WANT FREEDOM
Freedom of speech was restricted and socialists suffered form this. An example is Eugene V. Debs who went to jail because he delivered a speech that was antiwar. They sentenced him for 10 years.
EFFECTS FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS
Women helped in the war by selling war bonds, organizing patriotic rallies, and went to work in war production jobs. They also worked as nurses. Most women were college-educated activists and had the right to vote.
The term Americanization came to be known and it consisted of the creation of a more homogenous culture. Meaning immigrants had to pay their devotion to the U.S. Many immigrants were said to be violent, undisciplined and incapable of assimilation.
African Americans were excluded from freedom and only few could participate in American democracy. They had little access to industrial freedom. Groups such as the KKK and other individuals kept on lynching them.
