"Mary Lue" by: Bronwyn Higginbotham

Mary Lue really wants the toy on the top shelf, but she just isn't tall enough. There is a 45 degree angle from her line of sight to the top shelf, and 10 feet to the bottom of the bookshelf. She wants to know how far up she would need to reach.
x 45º 1o in
"its simple! You just plug it into the formula! Cos45º=10/x then divide 10 by cos45º so you need to reach 14 feet to get that toy.
So her Mom decides to help her, and teach her a math lesson while she's at it.
x 45º 10 in.
It would work the same way if you wanted to know how to reach the bottom shelf also. if you're standing 10 feet from the shelf , and looking down at a 28º angle, you would do 10 divided by the sin of 28º and you would get...?
Oh I get it! You would get 21 inches!
