The character John Proctor starts off as a hot headed person, and is also a very head strong person. His reputation in salem village is that he is a very well respected leader and he is also pretty rich for being a farmer in that time period. John is also in very good shape.
John changes in many ways through out the book. One way is at the end John becomes so forgiving and someone that truly wants redemption. He does not blame anybody but himself for his actions.
John was acting like he was still in love with Abigail, and refused to go to Salem town to tell the court that the girls were lying about there being witchcraft in Salem, and after John saw how bad the girls were acting I think that he finally realized that he needed to do something about it.
The Crucible: Character
"But I will cut off my hand before I'll ever reach for you again." (23) This quote is when Abigail and John were talking and John said this quote because he realized that he still loves his wife and cheating on her was wrong.
"Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!" (115). This quote shows that John is very protective over his name and that he wants to protect the truth even if he has to die over it. he had always wanted to keep his name clean.
"Do what you will. But let none be your judge. There be no higher judge under Heaven than Proctor is! Forgive me, forgive me, John--I never knew such goodness in the world! She covers her face, weeping" (111). This quote is saying how John is such a good man even after confessing to committing adultery with Abigail, and how Elizabeth still loves him after all that they have been through.

Last Name By Carrie Underwood
This is a good theme song for John Proctor because at the end of the play he wanted to confess to his crimes, but he did not want to ruin his good last name by posting it.
Another example of a quote that defines John is when John confessed about having the affair and Danforth asks " In-in what time? In what place?" (110). and John confesses, and this shows that John is a very open person after he confesses to having an affair with Abigail.
I would say that a way to describe John is that he is like the container. I feel like John is not scared of anyone or anything, and always wants his way. At the beginning John had a really bad temper that as time went on he realized that what he had been doing wrong.
