In the exposition it tells us about how Madame Loisel dresses/looks. In the third paragraph it says that she suffers from thoughts of a better life. She is unappreciative and believes she deserves the finer things.
The rising action is when Madame Loisel realizes she lost the "expensive" necklace that Madame Forestier loaned to her.
The necklace was fake, Madame Loisel and Mr. Loisel payed 36,000 francs for a duplicate necklace when the one Madame Forestier lent to her was only 500 francs.
