  • This your piano. Always your piano. Take it.
  • In this scene Jing-mei is sick of her mother bossing her around and stands up to her. This changes their relationship forever.
  • Pleading Child
  • Perfectly Contented
  • Twenty years later, Jing-mei accepts the piano that her mother gave her.
  • The theme of Two Kinds is happiness is found in unusual ways.
  • After her mother dies Jing-mei looks in the seat and finds two pieces she played at the recital. She plays them and feels happy.
  • The two pieces of music she finds in the bench "Pleading Child" and "Perfectly Contented". These pieces represent Jing-mei as a child then as an adult.
  • This theme portrays happiness in the story because Jing-mei is happy because of her mother pushing her and how those two music pieces represent her life.
