The kids always liked to annoy Miss Lottie. They throw pebbles in her flowers and yell curse words at her. Lizabeth is the oldest so she is the role model for this kind of behavior. "Y'all children get the stones; I'll show you how to use 'em". Then out of rage, Lizabeth started chanting at Miss Lottie. All the children then circled around singing not nice things to her. Thats when Lizabeth realized what she had started.
Lizabeth was fed up with all her emotions. She took Joey outside with her at 4 am and he began to follow her. Lizabeth didn't know what her intentions were and her feelings turned into one impulse towards destruction. She showed up to Miss Lottie's and began to rip the marigolds up. After she had done so, it was too late. She knew after this she would never do another childish act again.
Lizabeth had finally realized she was no longer a child. Her acts towards Miss Lottie were childish and uncalled for. Miss Lottie was just planting Marigolds trying to make beauty around them. The kids were too selfish to understand. "I know that that moment marked the end of innocence".
