In the book the Great Gatsby, "But above the gray land and the spasms of bleak dust which drift endlessly over it, you perceive, after a moment, the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg" (Fitzgerald 23). This is important because it shows how the Valley of Ashes looked like where the poor people lived. Gray symbolizes dirty, gross, and dark. The authors purpose is to tell what The Valley of Ashes looks like and explains how it is not where most people want to live because it very poor.
Blue symbolizes dreams, sad, and ambiguous. in the Great Gatsby, "In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and champagne and the stars" (Fitzgerald 39). Blue symbolizes that there is lonliness and everyone wants to be happy, but they are sad. While they are walking into Gatsby's they are happy and ready for the fun.
In the Great Gatsby, "Their house was even more elaborate than I expected, a cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion, overlooking the bay" (Fitzgerald 6). Red symbolizes blood and danger which shows that Tom and Daisy don't get along at all. Tom is always cheating on Daisy. Daisy is very angry with Tom because he keeps continuing to cheat on her.
